I did not know this before today, but the MTA has a strong history of… well, just calling its customers stupid on its mail and rails. (And we should try to call them of course, but I digress.) I think it was in 2008 that the subway made national headlines when a retired New York City Transit worker was fired for calling one of his customers “retarded.” He had made the comment while jaunting along the F, D, and 2 lines in a wheelchair. When asked about it, he explained that he had called her “retarded” to convey how odd her speech was. As they say, people are people, regardless of whether they have a disability.
