All right, so they’re not technically the largest species of horned bug (at least, not when they’re on the ground) but the first of the Triops genus (which includes the more common taxonomic unit of ditophorous and pterodactylus bugs), Triops [supersidellus], are definitely the largest flying insect found on the Earth. They’re adults can be found across Eurasia, South America, and tropical Africa and Central America. They’re typically 12-18 mm in length and 2-6 mm in wingspan, though some have been reported to be almost as large as 12 mm in length and 3-5 mm in wingspan.
